One of the oldest institutions in the country, Brown University is a private and Ivey League University that is located in Providence, Rhode Island in United States. It is one of those institutions that were founded prior to independence of America in the year 1764.

In terms of setting up, Brown University is the third oldest higher educational institution in New England as well as seventh oldest in the entire country.



Campus Features



Many parts of the campus of the University were set up during the 18th century and their constructions and modifications continued till the 20th century. That is why colonial architecture is quite prominently visible in the constructions. Campus consists of Brown College, Alpert Medical School, School of Engineering, and Graduate School.



Unique Feature



Brown was the first secular higher educational institution in United States. Another unique feature is the organization of international programs through the Watson Institute for International Studies. Students can select any course on satisfactory credit basis since 1969. Absence of negative and positive scores in the gradation system is also another exceptional feature. A small research school with 689 full time faculties, the University boasts of seven Nobel Laureates among them.




Enrollment Proportions



Majority of students; around 42% in the undergraduate course have taken to social sciences. Other popular subjects are life science and physical science covering 17% and 14% of students respectively.



Games and Sports



With no less than 37 varsity athletic teams that are known as Brown Bears, the University offers excellent opportunities for students having talent in games and sports. Its Mascot is "Bruno the Bear" and supporters are called Brunonians.



New Financial Policy



In terms of admission the University offers scope for all walks of the life though there is no specific quota for any of the streams. Recently, the University has adopted a new financial policy that eliminated loans for such students whose family income is less than 100,000. Parental contribution for families with income under $60,000 per annum has been eliminated by the University on the other hand.



Student Organizations



One of the special features of Brown University is that it has more than 300 registered organizations of students in its campus. New students are given the chance to get acquainted with the organizations and their activities during their orientation programs.
