A private college located in Winter Park of Florida in United States, Full Sail University was originally established in Dayton, Ohio with the name Full Sail Recording Workshop. Subsequently, the institute was relocated to the current location at Florida. An important addition for the university was induction of online degrees from the year 2007.

Brief Background

Founded by Jon Phelps in 1978, the school relocated to Orlando in 1979. Film program was taken up in 1988 and finally Full Sail moved to the current location of Winter Park and started its initial expansion beyond its only program of audio expansion and started taking up others. In 1990 the institute was allowed to extend education in specialized associate programs. For three years from 1989 through 1991, it was considered best recording school program. Many specialized associate degrees were added in 1995-99. First bachelor degree program was started in entertainment courses in 2005.

Campus Features

Located on 191 acres of land, the campus of the university has as many as 110 studios as well as excellent production environment. Campus contains a back lot for film shooting, recording studios, live venues, sound stages, art and design studio, post production dubbing stage, motion capture studio, and rooms with editing facilities.


Degrees Offered

Students will have the following options for building up their careers in the Full Sail University –

Associate degrees;
Bachelor’s degrees in multiple courses;
Master’s degrees in audio technology, designing, and computer animations;
Master’s degree in films; and
Many other undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Overall the school offers thirty three degree programs.
Accreditation and Enrollment

Full Sail University is accredited by the Career Schools and Colleges Accrediting Commission or ACCSC. At present the university has 12,400 students enrolled under it.

Special Programs

Some of the special associate and degree programs added to the institute that included –

Development and designing of games;
Digital media; and
Show production and touring;
In the first decade of 21st century, all these associate programs were converted in to full degree programs. Other special programs were –

Associate degree in Graphic designs;
Master’s degree in entertainment business online;

Degrees online are not always included in campus courses such as Internet marketing; sports management, and designing and development of computer animations.
The university finally changed its name to Full Sail University on March 24th in the year 2008 when it was allotted university status by the Commission for Independent Education of the Florida Department of Education.
